Botox and Fillers

Botox:

Botox® and Dysport® injections are one of the most common cosmetic enhancements used today in relation to anti-aging, wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet and many other age related facial changes.

Botox® and Dysport® are medicines that relax muscles by inhibiting the secretion of acetylcholine needed for muscle contraction. It has been used for the past (25) years to treat such medical conditions as cervical dystonia, TMJ, and other neuromuscular disorders.

As you grow older your skin becomes less elastic due to the loss of collagen and reduced vascularization of tissues. Wrinkles (rhytids) occur when certain muscles become more dominant and the skin does not have the ability to be as elastic in response to these muscle contractions. In addition, muscles become constrictive and naturally form creases and rhytids. Dynamic rhytids (not a crease of the skin) can be eliminated or lessened by relaxing the dominant muscle as it competes against either an inferior muscle or in constricting skin elasticity. This is why certain patients of differing ages start to form wrinkles at different times as compared to other individuals.

Because muscles of the face are relatively small, it is necessary to introduce the medicine by injection so that the exact placement and the effect is achieved. By introducing the medicine into the exact muscle group responsible for the wrinkling, various aesthetic enhancements can be obtained in addition to elimination of the rhytids. Wrinkles of the forehead, crows feet, frown lines, and eyebrow shaping is easily achieved. Other specialty injections for dimpled chin, bunny lines, vertical lip lines, and sad smile can be performed with Botox® and Dysport®.

Botox® and Dysport® are safe drugs that has a long history of use. You will see the rejuvenating effects and visible reduction of wrinkles and be happy with a younger looking you! Depending upon your own metabolism and receiving regular treatments it can last for (3) months or longer. Our individualized treatments are painless and take particular attention not to cause bruising and look natural.

Juvederm:

Juvederm is one of the newest, “next generation” substances known as “dermal fillers” or “injectable fillers.” Because more patients want quick procedures that show almost immediate results with little, or no, downtime, Juvederm has become extremely popular with consumers and is the #1 dermal filler in the United States.

Juvederm® is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid distributed by Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox®. Hyaluronic acid is one of very few substances that is identical in all species and tissue types and therefore it can be used in many medical applications. In Juvederm® it restores youthful resilience to your skin by simply adding to your natural supply.

Juvederm® is commonly used in cheek augmentation, naso-labial folds, lip augmentation, worry lines, tear trough, and in the hands. Juvederm® is packaged in different viscosities such as Juvederm Ultra® and Juvederm Ultra Plus® which can be used for larger wrinkles and folds or for greater correction. The higher viscosity and concentration of hyaluronic acid the longer the duration that the treatments are effective, typically dermal fillers last 6-12 months or longer depending upon where they are placed and the type of filler used. Anesthesia can be used for sensitive areas or may not be needed as the product includes Lidocaine for additional comfort.

After injection, the product binds to water and generally remains for many months. Non-stabilized hyaluronic acid products, by comparison, last only a few days or several weeks at most. As a totally non-animal product, there is no risk of transmitting disease or eliciting allergic reaction in patients who are sensitive to common foods, such as beef, chicken and eggs.

We carry (2) forms of Juvederm® products that are specially designed for different purposes and effects, from eliminating tiny lines to enhancing facial contours and sculpting lips to perfection.

  • JUVEDERM ULTRA for wrinkle correction and lip enhancements.
  • JUVEDERM ULTRA PLUS for shaping facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, correcting deep folds, and volume augmentation of the lips

How long a treatment holds its effect is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, life style and muscle activity as well as on the injection technique. The gel particles in Juvederm® are absorbed so slowly that you have ample time for maintenance treatments. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place. The less concentrated the gel becomes, the more water it is able to bind. These facts are the main reasons that treatments with Juvederm® products last so long.

When totally absorbed the gel disappears unnoticed from the body. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment six to twelve months after an initial treatment of wrinkles or facial contouring. After lip treatments, a follow-up is normally needed after about six months. You always have the choice to continue or change the combination of treatments, and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like You are always in charge of your looks.

The resilience and youthful contours of your skin – its ability to counter the effects of time, wind and weather – owes much to hyaluronic acid. It exists in all living things and its most important function is to bear and bind water.
